It's obvious that Rick Mofina knows what he's talking about when it comes to crime writing when I read this story. It is excellent with the quality of writing and the storyline itself.Frank Harper was just a few months away from an early retirement from the police department, and on this night his partner had called in sick, so he was patrolling alone. He kind of liked it that way, gave him a chance to think. He thought about his family, his wife and two kids, and back to some of the cases that he had worked years ago that were brutal and unforgettable.
His thoughts were interrupted by his radio calling about a computer warehouse alarm that went off every night. Then another call came in. This one was more serious and Frank floored the Crown Victoria through town. The ending hits you like running into a brick wall.
This is definitely a story to read if you like crime fiction and short stories. I plan on reading this author's novels, too, since some of them are thrillers. Highly recommend this story.

Blood Red Rings Dangerous Women Desperate Men edition by Rick Mofina Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews
This is a nice quick read with a decent story line. But, it really could benefit from a good editor. Spelling and punctuation errors abound that detract from
the story. Also, parts of the story seemed forced and / jumbled together.
This has the makings of a good story but currently reads like a college Writing 121 assignment.
This is a tightly wound short story with a surprise twist which will leave you choking back tears. I really enjoyed the story and would have given it five stars but it has a few errors which competent editing should have caught. Read it anyway; it's well worth your time.
While overall this story has a good flow (and a somewhat implausible twist ending), I felt as if the main character's angst was a bit by-the-numbers, almost if I was reading about a composite character.
Excellent short story with a twist at the very end. I won't say more so not to spoil it for you but its well worth reading. There are some typos that need a bit of editing but nothing major.
This short story was a taut little thriller about family and the price a man pays to protect them. With a surprising ending, this story entices me to read more by Rick Mofina. It has one spelling error that I caught but it didn't distract me from the tale at all.
It always amazes me what a good writer can do in a few short pages. Rick Morena shows us what it feels like to be an overworked cop and the price it demands from both him and his family. We see the horror of the job which leads to the necessary desensitization but we also see the boredom. The description of this family is believable and we can't help but sympathize right up to the shock ending. This is the first thing I have ever read by Rick Morena (I'm not usually a fan of police procedurals) but I'll definitely be back for more. Great story!
The author starts off with a soon-to-be-retired cop thinking back on his life as he pulls a solo late shift, and thinks of life's regrets, happy times with his children when they were young, and how he wants to start anew with relationships with his wife and children. After you get into some of the preliminaries, the author kicks it up a notch and gets your heart pumping, then has an ending that feels like a big blow to the gut because you didn't see it coming. When I finished the story, I verbally said, "wow!" This one is a keeper.
Great job, and excellent story!
