I loved reading this book. It's one of those timeless stories that takes you on a long, beautiful journey and leaves you with a satisfied sigh after you reach its end and close the book. It's a story in a story, where an elderly babysitting woman (the local witch) reads a book to a brother and sister about two main characters, Gabriel and Sebastian. Gabriel finds a block of ice in a cave, sees a beautiful maiden in it and carves her out. The liveless Ice Maiden triggers something deep inside Gabriel, setting him off on a journey where he soon learns more about himself and his destination. At the same time, the story is also told from Sebastian's point of view, who is a thieving sorcerer. Sebastian falls upon the Ice Maiden and obsessed by her beauty, seeks a way to bring her to life. When Gabriel's and Sebastian's paths cross, they discover something that will change them forever.
Lisa is an incredibly talented author, as she manages to whisk her readers straight into the story through her beautiful descriptions, without them ever burdening or slowing down the story. As you read, you will feel, smell, even hear the story. Reading this book will conjure the same feeling you had as a kid, watching the Neverending Story or The Princess Bride. It's such a pure story, story telling at its best.
I also really loved Gabriel, and maybe Sebastian even more. The characters feel real; They both have their weaknesses, but also their strengths. Lisa also manages to make both characters sound very different. Believe me, you'll love them as well.
As you read, you'll find yourself more and more intrigued about what's going to happen with Gabriel and Sebastian. The story becomes more and more mysterious, while at the same time you feel it's all building up to a climax. I was worried I was going to be dissapointed with the ending, but I wasn't. It was surprising, yet at the same time logical and very well found.
Like I said, I closed this book with a deep sigh of satisfaction and would recommend this book to any reader from 9 years up.

I really loved this book. I wasn't sure what to expect but it was a lovely fairy tell, very well written with just the right blend of lessons and magic. After I read it, twice, I gave it to my neighbor who has 5 kids. I hope they enjoy it as much as I did!
Wonderful story that pulls you in to its pages from start to finish. Great for both the young and the young at heart, with an inspiring message. A book you will want to read more than once for sure!
Such a delightful read and a story that it's both exciting and endearing. Lisa's vivid descriptions really set the feeling for each moment!
i am a 9 year old girl and when i read this book i was very excited for the storyline. i was amazed about how exciting this book is and how i couldn't put it down. It was one of my favorite books. i enjoyed the ending of this book. i hope the author writes another great book like this.
The Ice Maiden's Tale is a story within a story, and each is integral to the other. As much as I wanted to know the resolution to the tale of Sebastian and Gabriel, I was excited to see Casper and Johanna's find its own way. The power of hope and storytelling and family wind throughout the pages of the book, and they're entwined in the heart of the stories. This is going on my bookshelf with Hans Christian Andersen and the Brothers Grimm.
Don't let the term "fairy tale" turn you away! This story has just the right number of plot twists and turns to keep your imagination satisfied. Great for a summer afternoon by the pool or a snow day under the blankets! Preziosi has a great voice and skilled character development, I look forward to more from her in the future!
This is a wonderful story for both children and adults. It not only follows the adventures and peril of Sebastian and Gabriel, but also the innocence and curiosity of Johanna and Casper. It keeps you wondering what will happen next and has a wonderful lesson in the end. I would highly recommend this book!
